Many of you may already know most of this. So, here's where things currently stand.
L. J. is working at White Oak Lanes bowling alley, front desk. He has developed a loyal customer base and
has markedly increased revenue. He has taken Wednesdays, in particular, and made them his own.
The owner and manager are amazed at the way the Wednesday receipts have increased an average of fourfold since
L. J. has been running shift. In fact, because of this, and the constant positive comments about
him from league members and other customers, the owner has indicated that L. J. will be getting
a raise this fall. This job typically occupies 18-30 hours a week of his time.

Jackson has started at the bowling as a pin spotter. Truly, with everything he does and can do,
a more appropriate title would be mechanic's apprentice. Through the summer he has been a freelancer,
but this fall the owner wants to add him to the regular payroll with a pay increase. Currently,
Jackson is scheduled 12-16 hours a week.

Margie has returned to Pizza Hut after a 17-month leave. Upon request, she took the shift supervisor
position not wishing to take the store manager spot again. She has even been offered the manager position
at other stores in the 'fleet,' but she is not interested. Margie's typical work week is 40+ hours,
but once they get more people trained for management, she is wanting to drop to three or four days a week.

The big news at the moment is that, yesterday, L. J. was offered and accepted a promotion with Houghton
Mifflin Co. He will still be doing editorial reviewing. However, he is now also a member of the "Tiger Team."
The members of the Tiger Team come from among the best reviewers in each review category: editorial, algorithm, accuracy, and freeread.
This team is the final word on whether any particular section or set of content is ready for marketing.
The members are able to directly edit documents, as opposed to just commenting on what needs changed. L. J.
will not only be editing for pedagogy and content (editoral), but also for copyedit issues (freeread).
When his current contract ends and is renewed at the end of August, a pay raise will be considered (and is
already supported by his boss, the Editorial Lead). Houghton Mifflin work has recently risen to take 45-55 hours
a week.
